CLAT 2017: APPLICATION FORM, EXAM DATES, ELIGIBILITY, SYLLABUS AND PATTERN





CLAT 2017: The CLAT Common Law Admission Test is one of the most reputed entrance examination. Each year this examination gets conducted. It is a national level entrance examination to provide admission in UG and PG Law courses. This examination gets conducted for the duration of 2 hours. In this text there will be multiple type questions based on General Knowledge, Math, English and Legal & Logical Reasoning. You must be minimum12th passed out in order to apply for this examination.

Currently there are total 16 NLUs – National Law Universities within our country. Each year, it is the responsibility of one NLU to conduct this entrance examination successfully. CLAT 2016 was conducted by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala. If we talk about the total seats then it is 1100 by all the NLUs.

Eligibility Criteria for CLAT exam:


Educational Qualification for the Candidates who want to apply for UG programme:



Interested candidate must have done 12thand the candidates who have given the examination but their result is not out yet, they can also apply for this examination.

They must have cleared 12thfrom a recognized university with minimum 45% marks for general category and 40% for SC/ST category.

Educational Qualification for the Candidates who want to apply for PG programme :


Interested candidates must have done LLB (5 year Integrated LLB degree) from a recognized with minimum 55% marks for general candidates and 50% marks for ST/SC candidates.

Age Limit :

Candidate must be less than 20 years old as on 1stJuly 2017 and 22 years old in case of SC/ST. There is no upper age limit to apply for this.

Important Note:
Candidate must be an Indian citizen and NRIs. Candidates who have cleared 12thwith compartment, they can also apply for this exam.

Important Dates for CLAT 2017 (Tentative):


  • The application forms will be available from 1st week of January 2017 to last week of March 2017
  • Dead line for online submitting the application form – last week of March 2017
  • Admit cards will be available – Mid of April 2017
  • The date of examination for CLAT 2017– 1stto 2ndweek of May 2017
  • Result will be out – 3rdto 4thweek of May 2017
  • Admission will start from – 4thweek of May to 1stweek of July 2017
  • Admission duration will closed – 1stweek of July 2017

Application Procedure:


  • Go to the official website in order to apply for CLAT 2017.
  • Except online registration, candidate can not apply via any other application mode.

Application Fee –

  • Candidate who belong from general category they need to pay Rs. 4000/-
  • Candidate who belong from reserved category they need to pay Rs. 3500/-
  • Payment must be done via online mode by using net banking or debit card or credit card.

Application Fee for CLAT 2017:


  • General category candidates will have to pay: Rs. 4000/-
  • Reserved category candidates will have to pay: Rs. 3500/-
  • Payment must be done via online mode by using net banking or debit card or credit card. No other mode like challan or DD will be acceptable.

Examination Pattern and Syllabus for CLAT 2017:


Exam Pattern for UG Courses:


  • 200 objective type MCQs will be asked in the question paper. The duration of exam will be two hours. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer and there will be 0.25 negative marking for wrong answers. The questions will be asked from following topics:
  • English Language and Comprehension : 40 questions
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs : 50questions
  • Numeric Ability : 20 questions
  • Legal Aptitude : 50 questions
  • Logical Reasoning : 40 questions

Exam Pattern for PG Courses:


  • 150 MCQs will be asked and two hours duration will be provided to attempt the examination. Each question will carry one mark and 0.25 negative marking will be applicable for wrong answers. Questions will be asked from following subjects:
  • Constitutional Law : 50 questions
  • Jurisprudence : 50questions
  • Other Subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR : 50 questions

CLAT 2017 Result :


The declaration of CLAT result will be during 3rd to 4th week of May 2017 through the official website. The admission process for the passing candidates will start from 4th week of May to 1st week of July 2017 as expected. The candidates will have to carry all the original documents for verification while taking admission for verification. It is expected that the closing date of Admission into will be 1st week of July 2017.
